| | Wendell Young had just completed his first season of Ontario Major Junior A hockey with the Kitchener Rangers when he was selected 73rd overall by the Vancouver Canucks in the 1981 Entry Draft.
He made his NHL debut with the Canucks in 1985-86 after two seasons in the minors. Young went on to post a 4-9-3 record in his rookie season in 22 appearances. He continued to split his career between the NHL and the AHL until the 1989-90 season when he became Pittsburghs number-one goalie.
Young lost the number one job the following year but stayed with the Penguins as the backup goalie and won Stanley Cup rings in both 1990-91 and 1991-92.
He was claimed by Tampa Bay in the 1992 Expansion Draft and appeared in 40 games for the Lightning over the next two seasons. He was traded back to Pittsburgh in February of 1995 and appeared in ten games with the Penguins before seasons end.
Young is the only goaltender to win the Memorial Cup (1982), Calder Cup (1988), Stanley Cup (1991, 1992), and Turner Cup (1998, 2000).
